1. Perennial with taproot and extensive creeping root system; stems unbranched until flowering; distinct yellowish-green bracts emerge early on plant tops; pods explode propelling seeds.
2. Herbicide control and targeted grazing (i.e. sheep & goats) can be effective; biological control agents are available; early mowing will reduce seed set.
